50 year old Bernadette Behmlander was last seen at her home in Battle Creek, Michigan in October 1997.
At the time of her disappearance, Bernadette lived alone and was not employed. She spoke to her ex-husband by phone once a week, and had recently told him some work needed to be done on the house.
The ex-husband mailed her a check for $400, but was unable to reach her by phone the next week, which prompted him to drive over to her house.
Upon his arrival, he found spoiled food in the refrigerator and in a pot on the stove. The check he had mailed her was next to the sink, and her diamond ring was found in the bathroom.
Bernadette’s vehicle was locked and parked in the backyard. He did not report her missing immediately because he assumed she would return.
Bernadette is of Chinese ancestry, but was born in Trinidad. She often wears athletic casual attire or country western clothing as well as several gold chains.
Behmlander has black hair, brown eyes, stands 5’0 tall, and weighs 120 pounds. She has moles above her left eye and on the left side of the bridge of her nose. She has a scar on her abdomen and a scar on her left cheek.
Bernadette was declared legally dead in 2010.
