Santino Ysasi – 2022 Homicide – Grand Rapids
Case Information
Name: Santino Ysasi
Nicknames: Tino, Taco
Date: October 19, 2022
Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan
Around 3:30 am on October 19, 2022, 46 year old Santino Ysasi was killed in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
His body was found behind the now closed Saint James Catholic Church in the 700 block of Bridge Street NW near Caldwell Avenue NW. He was homeless at the time, and often spent his nights behind the church.
In February 2023, police released surveillance video showing a person of interest in the area right before he died. The homicide itself was not captured on video.
The video shows the person walking by the area where Santino was killed, going out of camera view, then returning about 20 seconds later. It is unclear if Ysasi knew the killer.

“Our hope is by putting this video out and these still shots is that it will help jog someone’s memory or remember a key detail of that morning in question when Santino was killed so we can help identify and have further leads in this case,” Grand Rapids Police Department Capt. Chad McKersie said.
Santino left behind five children.
