Location: Flint, Michigan

Four year old Jessica Phelps vanished from her Maryland Avenue home in Flint, Michigan on July 1, 1997. She vanished while playing outside her home while her mother was in the shower.

Her skeletal remains were found on April 2, 1998 in an Atlas Township culvert, about 15 miles away from where she disappeared. Clothes that resembled what she had been wearing were found nearby.

Two days later the bones were positively identified as Jessica’s. Authorities weren’t able to conclusively determine how Jessica died due to the decomposition of her body, although they believe she was asphyxiated.

Police ruled her death a homicide, but her killer has not been found. Her case remains active and in the hands of the Flint Police Department.
