15 year old Jada Rankin was shot and murdered on October 16, 2016. The incident took place at 2 a.m. in the 14300 block of Ardmore Street near Six Mile Road and Schaefer Highway in Detroit.
Jada was leaving her brother’s birthday party at her grandmother’s house when the incident took place. While outside with her family her brother asked a driver who’d been speeding up and down the street to slow down. The driver then opened his car door and started firing shots into the crowd, with one striking Jada in the abdomen. She was rushed to Sinai Grace hospital where she died a short time later.
Police do not have a good description of the gunman, but the vehicle involved was a gray or silver sedan, possibly a mid-2000 Chevy Impala or Lumina.
Jada was a 4.0 honor student at Sterling Heights High School, a kicker for the football team, and had just been nominated as homecoming queen.
