Doreen Askins was killed in an arson fire on October 20, 2008 on Detroit’s west side. The incident occurred in the 6500 block of Forrer near Greenfield and Warren Avenue.
The incident occurred at 4 a.m. when the vacant house next to Doreen’s home was set on fire. The fire spread to Doreen’s house where she was asleep.
Doreen tried to escape through the front door but it was swollen shut. When she went to escape through the back door the furnace exploded. She was 70 years old.
