Daran Burkes was shot and murdered on October 9, 2016 on Detroit’s west side. The incident occurred at 4:20 p.m. on Fenkell between Freeland and Ardmore Streets.
Daran was shot in broad daylight while walking down the sidewalk. The suspect was captured on surveillance video walking up to Burkes and shooting him in the back.
The suspect is described as a black male, mid to late 20s, 6’1″ with a slim build, dark complexion, clean shaven, dark brown eyes and short dreads or braids in his hair. He was wearing a horizontal striped shirt and gray jogging pants and was armed with a small caliber handgun.
Police say it’s possible that this was a case of mistaken identity.
Daran Burkes, who had cerebral palsy, was a student at the Charles Drew Transition Center for young adults with special needs. He was 24 years old.
