18 year old Damond Carpenter was murdered on Friday December 22, 2017. The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. at the Eastland Court Apartments located at 10421 Cadieux Road on Detroit’s east side.
Damond was home from school on holiday break when the shooting happened. He was heading to the Eastland mall to finish some holiday shopping with a couple of his friends when shots started coming from a Chrysler 300. His friends were injured, but survived. Damond was pronounced dead on the scene. Police do not believe that Damond was the intended target.
Damond Carpenter graduated from Madison Heights High School. While in attendance, he earned student of the year, and played on the football and track teams. He also received many awards as a member of the robotics team. Damond would go on to further his education at Western Michigan University majoring in engineering, and was a valued member of the cheerleading team. Among his many achievements, he also volunteered with different local charities.
