Clarence Tariq Hammond III was murdered on the night of January 13, 2012 in the city of Madison Heights. The incident took place in front of the President Madison Apartments located at 31700 Halo Drive, near 13 Mile Road and John R.
Hammond was returning home from work when the incident took place. As he was getting out of his car an unknown man approached. The man knocked Hammond to the ground and shot him in the head, killing him instantly. The man then fled the scene in a dark colored minivan.
Hammond’s girlfriend who witnessed the shooting told the police that the suspect had emerged from a van a few parking spaces away as they were getting out of his car, and that he demanded money before shooting Hammond. Police state that nothing was taken from Hammond.
The suspect is described as a 30 year old black male with a medium to heavy build, standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and dressed in all black.
33 year old Clarence Hammond III was a devoted father to his two young sons, and worked for the Michigan Department of Corrections. He graduated from Ferris State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2000.
